Real Madrid are competing in the Teresa Herrera Trophy for the first time since 2013, as they travel to Galicia at the Estadio Riazor stadium, La Coruna City, Spain to face hosts Real Club Deportivo de A Coruña on Wednesday evening.
The annual preseason affair has been running since 1946, paying tribute to the 18th-century Spanish philanthropist Teresa Margarita Herrera y Pedrosa, who was born in A Coruña.
Deportivo have played in the match every year since 1990, while Madrid have featured 18 times, lifting the trophy on nine occasions.
It’s their penultimate outing of the summer, with the start of the La Liga season closing in. Madrid remain unbeaten in preseason, having edged past Hungarian giants Ferencváros at the weekend.
Now, they’re facing up against a Deportivo side that’s celebrating its return to the top flight after an eight-year absence. The 1999–00 La Liga champions even slipped to the third tier but are back in the big time after achieving promotion via a second-place finish in the Segunda last season.
