St. Andrew at the Knighthead Park stadium, Birmingham city, England on Friday night is likely to be full as Birmingham play a glamorous friendly with continental powerhouses Barcelona in a pre-season friendly.
This will be Birmingham’s last friendly game of the campaign before they start their competitive games with an away game against Swansea in the EFL Cup next week. Barcelona still have three more friendlies to play before they start their La Liga campaign away at Elche in the last week of August.
Birmingham are looking to build on last season’s 10th-place finish in the EFL Championship as they look to remain in contention for promotion. The Blues have had a strong set of results in the friendlies so far, winning all four, two without even conceding. That said, all those have come against minor sides in England, and the jump in quality will be enormous.
The Catalans will start the defense of their La Liga title next month and are in the early stages of their preparations. A 4-1 win over CE Europa last week started their friendlies, but they travel here without eight World Cup winners. There’s still enough firepower in this side to go for an all-out win, complete with goals.
