Sydney City in Australia will play host to a London derby on Saturday as Chelsea face Tottenham in a pre-season friendly at Accor Stadium.
It is the second public match of the Blues’ pre-season campaign, and fans will hope it has half as much action as their first, which saw Xabi Alonso’s side edge Western Sydney Wanderers 6-4.
There was plenty for Alonso to analyse at full-time after his side put on a tidy attacking display but were broadly unconvincing in defence. In terms of positives, Joao Pedro bagged a nine-minute hat-trick, Dastan Satpayev marked his debut with a goal, and the Reggies Watson and Walsh put on a formidable performance in midfield, as did several of their academy team-mates.
Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham, meanwhile, are now unbeaten in three friendly fixtures, having beat MK Dons, Auckland FC and Sydney FC over the past fortnight. The most recent of those victories was settled by a penalty shootout, in which highly-rated young midfielder Luca Williams-Barnett produced a cool panenka to open the scoring.
For both sides, this will be the most challenging fixture of their pre-season campaigns, and both managers will be keen to curry favour with supporters by defeating an arch-rival.
