Real Madrid’s post-Xabi Alonso era didn’t start well and they will hope for some reprieve in La Liga against struggling 19th placed Levante at the Estadio Bernabeu, Madrid.
After back-to-back cup defeats, Real Madrid will be glad to return to league action. There were changes at the club after falling to Barcelona in the Super Cup final.
Alvaro Arbeloa was appointed manager but his start didn’t reflect Real’s ambitions as they exited the Copa del Rey, beaten 3-2 by Albacete. Last time out in La Liga, they had a resounding 5-1 win at home to Real Betis and will hope for the same here.
Levante will also be desperate for three points here as they look to add fuel to their survival push. They are unbeaten in the last three matches, drawing twice, and will be looking to reap from Real Madrid’s current woes.
After a 3-0 win against Sevilla, the visitors could only play to a 1-1 draw with Espanyol. Six defeats in their last 10 outings, however, paint the picture of a struggling team.
The same can be seen from their placing in the league, Levante being four points adrift of safety. They’ve managed just three wins in the league and lost the last two matches against Madrid.
