After five weeks and 103 matches, the 2026 World Cup final has arrived at last as Spain and Argentina prepare to battle for the fabled golden trophy this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford City, New York, USA.
The reigning world champions came from behind to beat England in their semi-final on Wednesday night as Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez scored late goals to keep hopes of retaining the trophy alive.
After coming out on top in a dramatic final in Qatar four years ago, Argentina are seeking to become only the third nation ever to win back-to-back World Cups, following the Italy team of 1934 and 1938, and the great Brazil outfit of 1958 and 1962.
Spain were first to book their place in the World Cup 2026 final after beating pre-tournament favourites France in Dallas on Tuesday thanks to goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro.
As such, La Roja have the chance to complete a second European Championships and World Cup double, 16 years on from achieving the feat.
